Do I need to take Driver's Ed as an adult?

No. Adults (18+) in Vermont are not required to take a driver's education to obtain a driver's license, they can go directly to the Vermont DMV to apply for a license, pass the permit test, and take the road test.

What happens if I forget to come to a driving appointment?

You will be charged a $75 NO SHOW fee and you must reschedule on the Compass Driving School website. If a student is going to miss a scheduled driving time, Compass Driving School must be notified at least 24 hours in advance.

How many at-home driving hours are required for a teen driver?

The Vermont DMV requires teen drivers to complete 40 hours of supervised driving at home with an unimpaired, licensed adult aged 25 or older. Of these, 10 hours must be completed at night.

How do I know if I have a seat in the class reserved?

For our Driver's Education Courses, once you make a deposit payment of $200 or more, your seat in the course is reserved. You will also receive a Welcome email.

Do I have to pay for the class all at one time?

A deposit of $200 must be received to reserve your seat in the class. Full payment MUST be made on or before the first class (Parent Night). The easiest and preferred payment method is online when registering with a credit/debit card or a check/money order payable to Compass Driving School LLC may be sent to:

Teen Driver's Education

When am I eligible for driver's education?

In the state of Vermont you must be 15 years of age and have a valid Learner's Permit.

What am I expected to bring to the First Class/Parent Night?

A parent/guardian MUST attend the First Class, also known as Parent Night, with you. Please bring the students original birth certificate plus a copy for Compass Driving School to keep and PHYSICAL Learner's Permit ID card. Also please print the application, fill it out, and bring it with you.

Can I miss a class?

No classroom instruction shall be missed during any course, except for good cause as determined by the instructor (such as a death in the family or injury). Absences due to good cause shall not exceed 4 hours. Any classroom session missed must be made up with assignments equivalent to the missed lesson, at no additional cost to the student. The grade on any assignment that is made up shall be retained with the classroom records for that particular program.
